“RE-IGNITE”

In Luke 19, scripture tells us the story of a tax collector by the name of Zaccheus. This man had a desire to see a change take place in His life and when he heard about Jesus, I believe that desire was awakened. There is always something that takes place in our lives when we encounter our Lord and Savior, Jesus. For Zaccheus, a dramatic change took place. This DIVINE DESIRE began with the desire to SEE. Zaccheus was so determined to see that he climbed up in a tree to be able to see Jesus. What he thought would be merely a visible image became a genuine reflection of his own life. Zaccheus saw himself as a man whose reputation and image was tainted by sin. The light of Christ will always bring to light our sin and when we come into His presence, we recognize our desperate need for Jesus in our own lives. Second, Zaccheus had a DIVINE DESIRE to WELCOME Jesus into his life. Verse 6 says that “he hurried and came down and received Him gladly.” Each of us should have the desire to welcome the Lord into the most private places of our lives. We notice that Jesus didn’t just stop and speak to him publicly, rather Christ went to his home and stayed with him. When we welcome Christ into our lives, He gladly comes to stay with us as promised in His word. Third, Zaccheus had a DIVINE DESIRE to CHANGE. It began by embracing Jesus as Lord over his life and offering proof of his repentance by offering to make restitution to anyone he may have defrauded in the past. The “new creation” that the apostle Paul talked about in 2 Corinthians 5:17 became a living reality in his life. My question for you today centers around the desire we have or lack when it comes to Jesus. Are we just wanting to stay out of hell or do we have a DIVINE DESIRE to really know Him as Savior and Lord. Our Lord is passing by today so let’s not let this divine desire diminish, but allow it to bring significant change in our lives.
